Religious Education
Teaching the Minds, Touching the Hearts

Middle School - Religious Education Program

Love the Lord your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself… (Matt. 22:37)

This is the way of life Jesus commanded, and it is the heart of what guides us at St. Martins.

We assume that the whole world is God's creation and so is charged with the possibility of holiness. Young children have a natural sense of the interconnectedness of all, and of the wonder of life. Our purpose is to build on their innate curiosity and sense of wonder as they gain academic skills and knowledge.

All students participate in worship, and Elementary and Middle School students engage in a regular program of Sacred Study. Students from diverse religious backgrounds are guided to share in a life of prayer and exploration of the Christian scriptures and tradition. Our purpose is to instill trust in a gracious, mysterious God who is real and accessible in all the ups and downs of life.

Students come to know the Biblical stories by hearing them told, singing about them, and engaging them imaginatively in the visual and dramatic arts. While gaining a broad knowledge of the content of the Bible, students learn to respond to Scripture with their hearts as well as their minds. They move beyond knowing about God to developing a living relationship with God.
