SPORT REPORT: MUSTANG SOCCER

By Ed Warfield

The Mustang Soccer team is showing steady improvement. Despite losing our last two games by one goal, the effort and determination has been inspirational. Losing Stewart and Lauren to season-ending injuries poses a difficult challenge to our team. The good news is that each and every player is digging deep and putting forth their best effort, and our team spirit is wonderful. What we are lacking in experience, we make up for with heart.

Katie has been our most consistent offensive threat thus far, scoring in our last two games. Hunter showed great improvement in our last game and had several solid defensive stops. Garrett has shown a combination of control and abandon in the goal, and is exciting to watch. Miranda has stepped up her game, displaying hustle with much improved ball control skills. Natalie, Haley and Brad all showed great effort in the last game as they made their presence felt. David provided the team with a spark as his all around determination and effort defined what it is to be a “Mustang”.

William has become a solid defender through sustained personal effort and we will need him to continue to shut down opponent’s offensive threats. Williams’ efforts over the last seasons have now put him in a position to assume a leadership role in order to bring unity to a young defense. Tommy and Michael, both first year defenders, have been working extremely hard at understanding positional relationships on the field, and will surely emerge as solid defenders as they develop anticipation and footwork which come with experience.

Yoonas assisted Daniel in our season opening win, and Virginia has provided end to end consistency. Her leadership as captain is important to our team. Charlotte is a very athletic solid defensive player, and her determination is helping her begin to emerge as an offensive threat from the halfback position. Michael, Cameron, and Lucas are all working hard and becoming good productive team members. This is a true team. We have a big month in October. Sure, victory is sweet, but one thing that I can tell you about the players on this team based upon the attitude and effort that they have displayed: win, lose, or draw, each one of them is a winner!
