LETTER FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR, CYNTHIA BARRY
It is my pleasure to put out the word on how we enact our mission every day. One notable strength of our school is the incredibly active involvement by our families. I am struck by the participation of our parents and families in our school life. From attending cookouts to volunteering, to carpooling on field trips, to attending the Pep Rally and school sports—community is a St. Martin’s keynote. I’ve also been deeply impressed by the dedication of our teachers. I’ve witnessed numerous occasions where our teachers have gone the extra mile to reach a student, draw a student in, encourage and challenge a student. I am gratified by our students as they find the fun and reward of learning, taking full advantage of a St. Martin’s education. A crucial pillar of our school is its leadership. We are constantly appraising what we do and how we might do it better. For instance, we are embarking on a multi-year self-examination as part of the AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland Schools) accreditation process. Another example is the cutting-edge technology currently being brought into play in our classrooms. That effort has involved the Parents’ Association, teachers, and administrators as we prepare our students for the future. In the present, we are moving to web-based communications in order to be more interactive with our families and to build a green communications environment. I ask for your help and feedback. Let me know what you need so that we can make the bonds that unite us even stronger. The best advertising is word of mouth. Tell your friends about St. Martin’s. We’re having an Open House on November 10. All are welcome. Please come, and bring a new family!
